Teaching Children the Meaning of Christmas!

Through giving, random acts of kindness, and thoughtfulness your children will learn the true meaning of Christmas.

When you say the word "Christmas" kids automatically think of presents. There is nothing wrong with this, they are kids after all.

The lists below will assist you in teaching your child the true meaning of Christmas.

Teaching your child the real meaning of Christmas
You can teach them through books, movies, your own words and from going to Church.

Check out the bottom of this blog posting for helpful links to websites, books and more to assist you in teaching your child about Christmas.

Once our children learn why we celebrate Christmas they then can learn how to spread the Christmas Spirit.

TEACH THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING
Teach your children to give show them how much fun it is to receive and through giving they are helping someone else have that great feeling.

GIVING TO THOSE IN NEED
Get involved in an Angel Tree, Adopt a Family, or Toys for Tots.

My family enjoys giving to Angel Tree. You pick a card with a child's age if they're male or female, and the types of toys and books they like. We then shop for that child. It’s a great way to get your child excited about giving.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS
Spread the joy Christmas through song. Sing Christmas carols at home or go door to door with neighbors, family, and friends

MAKE SOMEONE'S DAY
Whether it is a neighbor, family member or friend you can teach your child how to brighten someone's day.
Children can make Christmas cards, drawings, and crafts.

GIVE TO ANIMAL SHELTERS
Go shopping for the animals at your local shelter. Pick up food and your child pick out some fun toys. Children love helping animals so this will be a great way to teach the holiday spirit.

SPONSOR AN ANIMAL

Your family can help a Rehabilitation Center or Zoo by picking out an animal to adopt/sponsor.

This is a great way to teach about giving and kids will be excited about helping their very own animal.

CARE PACKAGES FOR THE MILITARY
Collect items such as non-perishable foods, toiletries, magazines, books, iTunes gift cards, pens, and notepads. Have your child write a note of thanking our men and women overseas for protecting our country.

DONATE
Donate books, clothes, and toys to local charities.

Teach your child how kind it is to give things to those less fortunate.  Spend a day with your child going through all their books, clothing and toys and figure out what they'd like to give away.

VISIT THE ELDERLY
Visit a nursing home or assisted living center.

Bring cookies, have your child make cards or bring a little Christmas gift for the residents (an easy gift idea making Christmas Ornaments). Your child will be amazed by how fast they can spread joy.

DO RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS
You can make Random acts of Kindness calendar, or put ideas down on a piece of paper and pick out a new one with your child each day.

Random Acts of Kindness ideas- Hold the door open for someone, bake cookies for a neighbor, help around the house without being asked, smile at everyone you see, give someone a compliment, leave a friendly note inside a library book, makes a friendship bracelet for a kid you don't know well at school, invite someone new to play with you at recess, say "hello" to 3 people you've never spoken to before.
