Keeping your kids busy durning this extended break!

We're all adjusting to social distancing and not being able to do SO many things we normally do with our kids like: visit playgrounds, movies, or go to a friends house. I know many parents who are finding difficult to come up ideas to keep their children entertained. I hope the ideas below help you and your child have many full-filled days.

-Outdoor Fun-

REI's Free Kid's Adventure Journal
Make hikes at nature reserves and parks in your area even more fun with REI's free Kids' Adventure Journal, where young hikers (ages 6-12) can log notes and draw pictures about their experiences Print yours here!

Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS enabled devices and then share their experiences online. Go on the world’s largest treasure hunt HERE.

Use Trail Link to find local trails to go hiking, biking, etc.

Go for a walk
Walking daily walk as a family will help kids get more exercise, and burn off extra energy.

Nature Photo Fun
Bring a device (ie: camera, phone, iPad) along on a nature walk, or visit a park. Have the kids take plenty of photos. After you’ve collected enough photos you could make a photo album for your child online.

Play Outside
The options are endless: kids can ride bikes, play tag, hula hoop, toss a ball, draw with chalk, learn a new sport, create an obstacle course.
From Lemon and Lime Adventures

The best part about this simple summer science activity is that anyone can do it. The first step in making awesome Lego Shadow Tower designs is to build a fun tower. Any shape or size will do.

It is really fun to predict what the shadow might look like before you put the tower in the sun. You might be really surprised by how much of it changes. Next put your tower in the sun and move it until you find the best possible shadow design.

-Indoor Fun-

Play Games
Play board or card games. You probably have some laying around or you can buy one on amazon. We love junior monopoly and it helps with counting.

Build with Lincoln Logs or Lego's, play a game of hide-and-seek, make a fort, play with flashlights in the dark, Have the kids preform a Puppet Show, Indoor Obstacle course, Barbies versus Superheroes games and more.

Virtual Playdate
Use FaceTime, Zoom or whatever video streaming software and let your kids have virtual play date with a friend. You can play a game together like: Hangman, guess who, charades, staring contest, and rock, paper, scissors. You can also tell stories, read to each other, sing and dance together.

Spa Time
Have a spa day girls can enjoy a facial, manicure and pedicure. Some boys might not be up for this so they can join daddy in the garage for some guy time.

Try to spend more time doing things as a family.
Here's some ideas: Home Movie Night, Game Night, Living room camping or outdoor camping, S'mores and stories by the fire, Sports, Baking Cookies, Cook a meal together, and have a karaoke night.

Cleaning Fun
What better time to get spring cleaning done. Kids can learn  how to help you clean the house. They can: mop, sweep,  teach them fold their own clothing, or clean and organize their rooms. Turn up the music to make it more fun.

At the end offer a treat like: a popsicle treat, or an ice cream at the end of your cleaning.
