Fitting Fitness into your life!

It's so easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to exercise. It's even more difficult when you're a mother. The last thing you have time for is yourself.  The thought of making it to the gym 3 days a week doesn't seem obtainable. That's why we have to FIT fitness into our lives.

Here are some ideas to make every day an opportunity to work out!

WALK EVERYDAY

10-15 minutes of walking a day can make a world of difference with your body, mood, and energy levels.

It's not always easy to fit in walking with kids. You have to get creative and make the walks fun. Go on Nature Hunts (printouts available on Pinterest) play "I Spy" or you could drive to a playground, take a walk first then treat the kids to some play time after.

*When your spouse is off work use that opportunity to fit in some more walking, jogging or running.

USE A FITNESS TRACKER
If you don't already have one then get one. Being held accountable for your daily steps is motivating. Choose your goal number of steps you want to do each day maybe it's: 10,000 steps, or 15,000?

*The Fitbit and Apple watch offers more than just counting your steps. These higher-end fitness trackers can monitor heart rate, calories burned, work out types, goal settings and they have wonderful apps accompany them.

WORK OUT TO YOUTUBE VIDEOS

I love YouTube for finding free workout videos.
Set up a "Playlist" of fun videos you like to try. Mix it up!

CardioHITTYogaPilate's, Barre or whatever else interests you. Start with shorter videos. Try to find ones under a half hour.  Once you get into the routine then add more time and videos, try new things. Have fun!

APPS
Find some fitness apps you like an download them.
Here's a list of the  "Best Work Out Apps."

FAMILY ACTIVITIES
Depending on the season you can choose an outside activity to do as a family: Bike ride, swim, tennis, basketball, play golf, nature walks, family walks etc.

GO TO THE GYM
If you don't belong to one then join one. You can do the free trials all gyms offer to find one you like.

If your kids are not in full-time school bring them to the gym. That's why they have daycare.  Don't feel guilty. Bring a favorite stuffed animal, maybe a tablet for them to play with.  3-5 days a week may be difficult with the kids, but 1-2 days a week should be manageable.

Set up a schedule for yourself, and keep to it.
